Some are brilliant. Some look much better online than they feel when you arrive.
We have already done a lot of that filtering for you.

The places we include are there for a reason:
an exceptional location, the owner, or the food, the view and a road that takes you somewhere you would never have thought to stop.

Many are places we have experienced ourselves, others come from people we know and trust locally.

Suzanne and Ludvig live in the Western Cape and own Villa Chad on the Whale Coast.
Suzanne spent almost two decades running a boutique travel company in South America and designing journeys for international travellers.
Now we use that experience here, in the country we chose to call home.

We know many of the properties, restaurants, wine estates and people behind the experiences we recommend.
And we keep exploring. If we find somewhere better … we swap it in.

Our journeys are designed and then refined with you.

We’ve already designed a small number of journeys that truly work with the right flow.
From there, we adjust selected elements based on your preferences, while keeping your journey balanced and seamless.

Boutique Western Cape | 14 nights

A slow self-drive journey through the coast, wine country, fynbos and the Garden Route.
This is our signature Western Cape route.

It combines the places you probably came to South Africa to see with smaller discoveries you may never have found on your own.
The journey moves through:

  • The Cape Winelands
  • The Whale Coast, fynbos & mountains
  • The Garden Route
  • A few places we would rather not call hidden gems

There are beautiful drives, independently owned stays, excellent food and wine, wild landscapes and enough space in the itinerary to stop when somewhere catches your eye.

Villa Chad sits naturally along the route between Cape Town and the Garden Route.
This gives you the chance to experience a quieter part of the Whale Coast before continuing east or returning west. We have designed the route to flow well, but it is not rigid.

We can adjust certain parts around the way you like to travel.

Why these places?

Because we would go back ourselves.

We look for places with character: a beautiful setting, good food, owners who care about what they’ve created.
Some place are a bit more fancy, others a bit more simple but equally wonderful.

You might find yourself drinking wine with the owner, or taking a road you hadn’t planned because someone local told you to.
That’s the way we like to travel, and these are the places we put into our journeys.

A R10,000 journey design fee starts the personal planning process.
We refine selected stays and experiences around your preferences while keeping the route and rhythm that make the journey work.
The full design fee is credited towards your final booking.

4. Then you drive

We organise the accommodation and key elements of your journey.
You get the freedom to travel independently, stop when you want and make the trip your own, without having to research and coordinate everything yourself.

The route itself is carefully designed to work as a whole. The distances make sense, the pace is comfortable and there is enough time to actually enjoy each place.

The R10,000 design fee starts the personal planning process.

If it feels right for you, we can then arrange a call and take it from there.

We organise your accommodation and the key experiences included in your journey.

We also give you our recommendations for restaurants, stops and places worth discovering along the way, so you don’t have to research every part of the trip yourself.

You’ll still have plenty of freedom once you’re on the road.

No. Car rental isn’t included in the journey price, but we’ll tell you exactly what type of vehicle we recommend and can point you towards trusted rental options.

International flights, travel insurance, fuel, meals not specifically included in the itinerary and personal expenses are not included.

Your journey is confirmed once the itinerary has been finalised and the 50% deposit has been received.

The remaining balance is due 60 days before arrival.

Because your journey brings together several independently owned properties and experience providers, cancellation and change conditions can differ.

We’ll always try to adjust your journey where possible. Closer to arrival, some reservations may already be non-refundable.

The exact terms will be provided before you confirm your booking.

Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is required.

It should cover medical emergencies, cancellation, delays and the activities you plan to do during your journey.

Villa Chad sits naturally on the route and many of our journeys include a stay with us on the Whale Coast. If we’re around when you arrive, we’d love to meet you.
