Experiences
At Villa Chad, you can choose how you want to experience the region. From the sea to the mountains and everything in between, there is a range of options to explore.
Some experiences are more hands-on and active, others more quiet. We shape everything around your level of engagement and how you want to spend your time here.

Private Wildlife Encounter
We offer exclusive access to a privately guided experience at a dedicated wildlife sanctuary, set in a striking natural landscape.
This is a rare opportunity to come close to some of Africa’s most remarkable animals. You may meet a cheetah, observe a lion feeding, and encounter zebras roaming freely, along with curious meerkats and playful hyenas.
The experience is personal and respectful, centred around animals that have been rescued and are no longer able to return to the wild.
Available by request only. A profound experience for nature lovers, photographers, and those who seek deeper understandings.

Wine Experiences
Join Ludvig, our in-house sommelier, for private tastings and vineyard tours across the Cape Winelands: from the nearby Hemel-en-Aarde Valley to the iconic estates of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, and Paarl. Each experience is personalised to your taste and tempo, offering not just wine, but story, setting, and soul.
Horseback Adventures
Designed by Suzanne, a lifelong horsewoman and experienced equine guide, these routes have been carefully selected to suit both beginners and more experienced riders. Some trails begin just 10 minutes from the guesthouse, others around 45 minutes away, depending on availability of our partners. Each has been chosen for its trails and overall experience. Whether it’s your first time on a horse or you’re returning to the saddle, riding in South Africa is a scenic and memorable way to explore the landscape. If Suzanne is available, she might join you on a cheeky ride.

Sea Life Safaris & Whale Watching
From June to November, the coastlines of Walker Bay come alive with migrating southern right whales. We can arrange private boat excursions offering one of the world’s most intimate whale-watching experiences, just minutes from Villa Chad.
Beyond whales, the region offers a rich marine ecosystem the whole year through. In Gansbaai, known as the marine wildlife capital of South Africa, you may encounter pods of dolphins, colonies of Cape fur seals, and the endangered African penguin. On rarer occasions, even orcas pass through these waters. Boat-based experiences bring you closer to this diversity, while still respecting the animals and their environment.
For those seeking something more immersive, marine safaris depart from Gansbaai from Jan to Dec. These offer a deeper exploration of the ocean’s wildlife, guided by experienced conservation-focused teams.
Hiking and Birding
Explore the breathtaking trails of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, right from our doorstep. From Villa Chad, you can step out and head directly into the mountains, with routes such as Jean’s Hill and the Three Sisters offering accessible yet rewarding hikes with sweeping views over Kleinmond, the lagoon, and the coastline.
The Kogelberg Biosphere is UNESCO protected and widely considered the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom. It is home to over 1,800 plant species, many found nowhere else on earth. Throughout the year, the fynbos shifts in colour and character, from soft greens to bursts of proteas and ericas in bloom.
Birdlife is just as rich, with more than 150 species recorded in the area. You may spot Cape sugarbirds moving through the fynbos, sunbirds feeding on flowering shrubs, and raptors gliding above the ridgelines.
For shorter, self-guided walks, we offer pocket field guides for sale at the guesthouse (R450), allowing you to identify flora and fauna along the way.
Kelp Forest Kayaking
Glide through the quiet marine sanctuaries near Kleinmond or Hermanus. Paddle among swaying kelp forests, playful seals, and dramatic rock formations. A unique, peaceful way to experience the rhythm of the sea.
For a more tranquil kayaking experience, we recommend the Palmiet River close to the Guesthouse. For something more dynamic, kelp forest kayaking takes place in Walker Bay in Hermanus, known for its rich marine life and open coastal setting.
Food & Wine Experiences
At Villa Chad, food and wine are important.
South African Braai Dinners: Our in-house braais bring guests together over locally sourced meats, fresh vegetables, and regional sides, all grilled slowly over wood or coals. Expect rich aromas, wine pairing, relaxed conversation, and the sound of a fire crackling as the sun sets over the fynbos*.
In-House Wine Tastings: Guided by Ludvig and featuring selections from Hemel-en-Aarde, Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, and Paarl. Paired with light bites and rich storytelling*.
*Subject to availability only for a minimum of 4 people.
